Over 2 million children per year are injured or killed by hazards in the home.
The best prevention is an alert parent, but the following is a list of other safety devices to help protect your children:
Safety Gates: prevent falls down stairs and keep children away from potentially dangerous areas, such as pools.
Door and Safety Gate Locks: prevent childrenβs access to rooms and other areas that are potentially dangerous or that are not childproofed.
Anti-Scald Devices: for faucets and showerheads. Also set your water heater temperature to 120Β° F.
Safety Latches: on cabinets and drawers in the kitchen, bathrooms and other areas where medicines, household cleaners, and knives or other sharp objects are stored.
Window Guards: guards and/or safety netting can help prevent falls from windows, balconies, decks and landings.
Door Stops: stops and door holders can prevent pinch and crush injuries to fingers and hands.
Electrical Receptacle Protectors: (or outlet protectors) help prevent children from exploring electrical wall outlets, which can be VERY dangerous.
Edge Bumpers: on furniture and fireplace hearths prevent serious injury by softening any possible falls against sharp edges and rough surfaces.
Cordless Window Blinds: cut cords help prevent strangulation.
Smoke and Carbon-Monoxide Detectors: outside each bedroom.
