Spring Home Maintenance Check List

Focus on freshening up your home and protecting your property against the season’s strong winds and rains.

Outdoors:

Clean dryer vent – outside & both at the dryer connection.
Clean pool filter.
Clean gutters and downspouts.
Check for proper drainage away from house.
Check roof for loose, damaged or missing roof coverings, damaged flashings, & condition of vents.
Have chimneys inspected & cleaned by a prof
essional.
Check for deteriorated/damaged siding, & seal any cracks or gaps particularly around window and door trim.
Touch up peeling or damaged paint.
Wash all windows, inside and out.
Repair / replace screens.
Clean outdoor furniture and air out cushions.
Check irrigation system for proper operation and broken sprinkler heads.
Service your lawn mower & gardening equipment.
Fertilize your lawn.

Indoors:

Clean dryer vent – both at the dryer connection & outside.
Change A/C filters.
Check the shutoff valve at each plumbing fixture to make sure it functions properly.
Drain sediment from water heater.
Have A/C professionally inspected / serviced.
Test smoke and carbon monoxide detect
Check your fire extinguishers and review your fire escape plan with your family.ors, clean dust from covers & replace batteries as needed.
Check all electrical plugs for condition, and outlets, surge protectors, extension cords, etc. for over-loading.
Check windows and doors for weather-tightness and install weather stripping where needed.
Dust blinds and vacuum curtains throughout your house.
Clean kitchen and bathroom cabinets and throw away outdated food, medicine and cosmetics.
